Abstract
The primary objective of this study is to systematically analyze the dynamics influencing sustainable competitiveness in Iranian Premier League football clubs and to develop simulation-based strategies for enhancing their long-term strategic performance. This applied research employs a mixed-methods approach with a sequential exploratory design. In the first phase, qualitative content analysis was used to identify key components and establish the initial conceptual framework. The qualitative data were collected from official documents, financial and structural reports of the Football Federation, league regulations, expert interviews, academic articles, and media analyses, selected through theoretical and purposive sampling. Data analysis was conducted using three-stage coding (open, axial, and selective) in MAXQDA software, leading to the extraction of final themes and key variables. In the final phase, based on qualitative findings and system dynamics methodology, causal loop diagrams (CLDs) were constructed and the conceptual model was simulated using Vensim software. The results indicate that the dynamics influencing sustainable competitiveness operate through five reinforcing loops (club brand, fan engagement, technology and transparency, academy development, and official consumption culture) and three balancing loops (inefficient management, governmental interventions, and financial dependency). Subsequently, a set of policy strategies was developed across four key domains (governance, fan interaction, digital infrastructure, and human resources) and at three levels: national, league organization, and club. The findings suggest that a system dynamics approach provides an effective tool for understanding complex interactions, uncovering hidden behavioral patterns, and designing integrated policies to promote sustainable competitiveness in Iranian football clubs.
