Research in Sports Management and Movement Behavior

The journal “Research in Sports Management and Motor Behavior” publishes scientific, research, and review articles in the fields of sports management, sports event management, management of sports facilities and venues, strategic management in sports organizations, leisure and recreational sports management, sports marketing, sports media management, motor behavior, motor learning and control, motor development, sport psychology, and physical education. Articles are published in Persian and are accompanied by extended English abstracts. The journal provides a forum and a platform for scientific communication, discussion, and exchange of ideas.

This journal is a biannual scientific-research publication in the fields of sports management and motor behavior. The first issue of the journal was published in 2004 (1383 in the Iranian calendar), and it subsequently received scientific-research status from the Commission for Scientific Journals of Iran.

According to Letter No. 10011/11/3/9, dated April 18, 2011 (29/1/1390), issued by the Center for Research Planning and Policy of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, and in line with the policy of specialization of scientific-research journals, the biannual scientific-research journal Research in Sports Management and Motor Behavior was separated from the journal Movement Sciences and Sport, which holds Publication License No. 124/14328, dated January 14, 2002 (24/10/1380), issued by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.

Plagiarism Detection Software

The Persian text of manuscripts submitted to the journal Research in Sport Management and Motor Behavior is screened for plagiarism using the IranDoc Hamyab software (https://tik.irandoc.ac.ir) and Samim Noor (www.samimnoor.ir). The English abstracts of submitted manuscripts are checked using plagiarism-detection software, including iThenticate (www.ithenticate.com) and Grammarly (www.grammarly.com).

If plagiarism is detected in either the Persian manuscript or the English abstract, the editorial office immediately rejects the submitted manuscript and places the authors’ names on a blacklist for a period of five years. Therefore, all authors are strongly advised to check the full text of their manuscripts using plagiarism-detection software before submission.

The editorial office immediately rejects manuscripts found to involve plagiarism or self-plagiarism. At any stage of the manuscript acceptance process, if it is determined that a manuscript does not comply with regulations concerning plagiarism, copyright, or publication ethics, it will be rejected before acceptance for publication. If plagiarism is discovered after publication, the article will be retracted.

Retraction Policy

An article may be retracted when its findings are no longer considered reliable due to scientific misconduct or error, when it is found to have plagiarized previously published work, or when it is determined that the article has violated publication ethics guidelines.

An article may also be retracted when the integrity of the published work has been substantially compromised by errors in the conduct, analysis, or reporting of the research. Violations of ethical principles in publication or research may likewise result in retraction.

The original article will be clearly marked as “Retracted,” while its PDF version will remain accessible to readers. A retraction statement will be directly linked to the original published article in both directions. Retraction statements generally include a statement indicating whether the authors agree or disagree with the retraction.

Informed Consent of Research Participants

In the journal Research in Sport Management and Motor Behavior, all participants involved in studies and research involving human subjects have the right to privacy, and researchers must not violate this right without informed consent. Identifying information about participants, such as their first and last names and other identifying details, must not be published in written form, photographs, or pedigrees unless such information is essential for scientific purposes and the participants (or their parents or legal guardians) have provided written informed consent for publication.

Participants’ consent forms must be documented and archived in accordance with national regulations or local laws, either at the journal’s editorial office, at the researchers’ workplace, or at both locations.

Charter of Ethical Principles for Working with Laboratory Animals

Animal experimentation makes a significant contribution to medical and veterinary sciences, agriculture, and human welfare, and has played an important role in the treatment and prevention of diseases. Many major advances in medical and veterinary sciences—whether fundamental, applied, or fundamental-applied—require experiments using animal models to develop methods for preventing and treating diseases for which effective control methods are not yet available. In this regard, animal experimentation has been a foundation for many past and future scientific advances.

In other words, medical and veterinary sciences are substantially based on laboratory research involving animals. According to international ethical principles, new substances or equipment should not be tested on humans for the first time unless previous studies using appropriate laboratory animals have demonstrated their safety.

Therefore, compliance with the following principles is mandatory for the publication of articles in Research in Sport Management and Motor Behavior:

1. Protecting human and animal health requires experimentation involving different animal species, and an appropriate species and model must be selected for each study.
2. Where appropriate, alternative models and methods—such as mathematical models, computer simulations, and laboratory biological systems—should be used before conducting experiments on animals.
3. Animals selected for experiments must be healthy and, where necessary, appropriately modeled. The minimum number of animals required to obtain scientifically valid results should be used.
4. It must be clearly demonstrated that animal experimentation makes a significant contribution to protecting human or animal health or to advancing biological and biotechnological knowledge.
5. All researchers must treat animals as sentient beings. Animals must be properly housed and cared for to prevent or minimize pain, suffering, and distress.
6. Procedures that cause severe pain, suffering, or distress must be conducted using appropriate analgesics, sedatives, or anesthesia in accordance with accepted veterinary practices and procedures. Surgical or other painful procedures must not be performed on conscious animals or using only local anesthetics.
7. Researchers must recognize that procedures and instruments that cause pain in humans are also likely to cause pain in other vertebrate species.
8. Animals that may experience chronic pain, suffering, distress, or disability during an experiment and for which treatment is not possible must be humanely euthanized at the end of the experiment or at an appropriate time.
9. The best possible living conditions must be provided for laboratory animals kept for biomedical purposes. In general, animal care should be supervised by veterinarians experienced in working with laboratory animals.
10. The head of the group or research team using animals is responsible for ensuring the competence and experience of personnel involved in animal experimentation. The group leader must periodically train all personnel working with laboratory animals, submit copies of training certificates to the relevant ethics committee, and ensure compliance with all applicable requirements within the group or team.
11. The head of the group or research team is responsible for safeguarding the health and well-being of humans and animals during the transportation and transfer of laboratory animals.
12. For better organization and regulation, specialized animal-breeding institutions are the preferred source for supplying and delivering commonly used laboratory animals.
13. Environmental conditions, including temperature, humidity, ventilation, lighting, and other factors, must be compatible with the needs of the species being housed. Appropriate facilities must be available to the animals, and animal waste must be disposed of properly and regularly.
14. Animal housing facilities must ensure the animals’ overall health and minimize unnecessary stress. Adequate space must be provided for each animal according to its species, and appropriate hygiene standards must be maintained, including protection against predators, harmful insects, and other pests. Facilities must also provide suitable spaces and structures for quarantine and isolation. Only authorized personnel may have access to these areas.
15. Animals must receive sufficient food of appropriate quantity and quality according to their daily nutritional requirements to maintain their health, unless the purpose of the experiment involves studying changes in nutritional requirements. Animals must also have unrestricted access to drinking water.
16. Whenever a suitable alternative to the use of live animals is available, such methods and tools should be used to reduce the use of laboratory animals, including biological and non-biological alternatives.

Ethical Principles and Informed Consent

Compliance with medical ethics, maintaining anonymity, and protecting patient confidentiality are fundamental principles that must be observed. In this regard, the Code for the Protection of Human Research Participants, based on the Declaration of Helsinki, must be taken into consideration, and approval from the university ethics committee must be submitted with the manuscript.

For studies involving human participants, informed consent must be obtained from adult participants and from the parents or legal guardians of minors participating in the study.

If animals are used in an experiment, appropriate animal-care procedures and guidelines for the use of laboratory animals must be followed.

Publication of clinical trials in Iranian medical sciences journals is subject to registration with the Iranian Registry of Clinical Trials (IRCT) at www.irct.ir. Therefore, the study registration number must be included in the submitted manuscript.
