تحقیقات اندکی به بررسی اثر تعاملی خودکنترلی بر روی نوع خودالگودهی پرداخته‌اند. هدف از تحقیق حاضر تعیین تأثیر ارائه راهبرد­های مختلف بازخورد خودکنترلی از طریق راهبرد‌های خودالگودهی بر یادگیری مهارت شوت سه‌گام بسکتبال بود. بدین منظور 60 دانش‌آموز مبتدی پسر 11-13 ساله راست‌دست به روش نمونه‌گیری در دسترس انتخاب شد. سپس به­طور تصادفی به 4 گروه تقسیم شدند. یکی از گروه‌ها در بین بلوک‌ها و گروه دیگر قبل از جلسه تمرینی نوع  بازخورد خودالگودهی (بهترین عملکرد یا عملکرد کلی در اجرای مهارت شوت سه‌گام) را انتخاب می­نمود و برای هر یک از این گروه‌ها یک گروه جفت­شده انتخاب شد. برنامه تمرینی به مدت 6 جلسه و در دو هفته ارائه شد. پیش‌آزمون، آزمون یادداری و انتقال در 12 کوشش گرفته شد. نتایج تأثیر معنی­داری را بین امتیازات پیش‌آزمون با آزمون یادداری و انتقال نشان داد(001/0P≤)، همچنین گروه بازخورد خودکنترلی در طول جلسات و گروه بازخورد خودکنترلی قبل از جلسات با همدیگر و با گروه­های جفت­شده در آزمون یادداری و انتقال تفاوت معنی­داری داشتند(001/0P≤)، در حالی­که بین گروه­های جفت­شده تفاوت معنی­داری وجود نداشت(001/0P≥). این نتایج نشان­دهنده تأثیر بیشتر بازخورد خودکنترلی در طول جلسات است که بر خودمختاری بیشتر یادگیرنده به عنوان یکی از نیازهای روانشناختی برای بهینه‌سازی یادگیری، تأکید دارد.
