در سال های اخیر، مطالعات مربوط به رهبری گسترش یافته و مدل های جدیدی از رهبری توسط اندیشمندان ارائه شده است که یکی از آن مدل ها، رهبری زهرآگین است. بر خلاف سبک های رهبری مثبت گرا، رهبری زهرآگین بر جنبه های منفی یک رهبر تأکید دارد و محیط کسب و کار را برای پیروان تبدیل به محیطی آکنده از تنفر و بدبینی می کند. محبوبیت چشم انداز رهبری تاریک منجر به توسعه مدل رهبری زهرآگین شده است. پژوهش حاضر به دنبال بررسی پیامدهای رهبری زهرآگین با تأکید بر نقش میانجی مدنیت واحد است. این مطالعه از لحاظ هدف کاربردی، از نوع تحقیقات توصیفی و با روش پیمایشی است. برای این منظور نمونه¬ای به تعداد 210 نفر از ورزشکاران هیات های ورزشی مستقر در شهر سمنان به  بصورت غیر احتمالی در دسترس انتخاب شدند و داده ها از طریق پرسشنامه گردآوری شد و به کمک مدل یابی معادلات ساختاری در نرم افزار Pls - Smart مورد بررسی قرار گرفت. یافته های پژوهش نشان  می دهد که رهبری زهراگین بر بدبینی سازمانی و تمایل به ترک خدمت  رابطه معناداری دارد. با این وجود، بین رهبری زهراگین، اعتماد سازمانی و مدنیت واحد رابطه منفی و معناداری یافت شد. علاوه بر این، مدنیت واحد رابطه منفی و معناداری با بدبینی سازمانی و تمایل به ترک خدمت کارکنان دارد. همچنین بین مدنیت واحد و اعتماد سازمانی تأثیرمعناداری یافت شد.
